Romans 14

Watch this overview video and then read chapter 14.

DIG DEEPER

If you ask 1000 Christians how to best uphold God’s law in our daily lives, you’ll get 1000 answers. Paul warns us to stay away from these pointless arguments. Notice that he’s not referring to the main pillars of the faith we learned about in the first 11 chapters, but rather to disputable matters… things God’s Word does not directly address. For the church in Rome, these arguments centered upon whether or not gentiles needed to conform to Jewish customs.

v5 - It’s important to note that these verses are not a free for all. You can’t just live any way you please and claim Christian freedom. You must be fully convinced that the choices you make conform to God’s Word, and that’s a huge responsibility.

v8 - Ultimately our focus is not on pleasing yourself, rather in all things always remember you belong to the Lord.

v13 - We have a tricky road to navigate here. On one hand, we don’t want to let people wallow in the sins we read about in the first three chapters which will lead to their destruction, but on the other hand we don’t want to force them to follow our particular cultural choices as that might get in their way of accepting the gospel.

v19 - We can navigate that road though, again, by keeping our focus on our Lord and sharing the peace of Jesus.

Thanks for watching. Read chapter 14 now and have a great day walking in the light of God’s Word.
