Mark 12

Specific Text - Mark 12:35-37

Today's short little passage (remember, you should be reading the whole chapter, not just the short little passages focused on in the devotionals!) is a huge reason that we pay such close attention to the Bible. It's far different than anything else that's ever been written.

Jesus is once again trying to explain the things of the Kingdom of God to theses people who struggled with it so much. In passing he makes a remarkable claim:

David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared...

Jesus is teaching you here that when David wrote psalms, they were not just David's words, they were the words of the Holy Spirit. The same is true for all of the Biblical writers. Their experiences and personalities come through in what they wrote for sure, but the words you read are not just ancient literature, they are the very words of God!

That's why maintaining your habit of reading the Bible each day is so important. As you read these passages, God is speaking directly into your heart, so there is power in these words. You can trust them implicitly, because they come from a source removed from our sin-stained world. They come from the creator of all things, and the one who continues to uphold all things, and the one who chose you to be His own and is guiding you into eternal life in His Kingdom.

Prayer For The Day - Dear Father in heaven, your name is holy. I pray that your kingdom comes quickly, so that your will is done here on earth as it is being done in heaven. Give me today what I need for today to do the work you've given to me. Lead me away from temptation and sin so that I can focus on glorifying you. Thank you for your inspired words to me. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
