Today's Chapter: Luke 20
Specific Text: Luke 20:20-26
High school kids are experts at setting traps. You bait mom & dad with certain questions and comments throughout the week so that they will have to allow you to do the things you want on the weekend. You keep rephrasing your questions until you get a teacher to respond exactly the way you want. You know what I'm talking about... it's just part of your nature.
The Pharisees were really good at this skill too. They were trying to trap Jesus in His words. It's not that the Pharisees didn't like Jesus; they would have had no problem with Him if He would have just stayed in His little box - healing people, feeding the poor, teaching good morals, etc.
Jesus, however, has not intention of staying in the little boxes we build for Him. He expects and demands to have Lordship over every aspect of life. That means He wants to be first and foremost in every activity you participate in - school, sports, your job, your social life... everything.
This is why the Pharisees hated Jesus, and will go on to kill Him. They wanted to keep God in a box. Every once in a while they would open the lid a crack and admire God in the box, but they didn't want God getting in the way of their other activities.
We all have this same tendency. What areas of life are you keeping Jesus in a box? In what ways do you need to submit to Christ's Lordship?
Prayer For The Day: Father God, you have given us so many blessings in my life. Help me to place every activity I participate in under your Lordship, so that I may honor and glorify you in everything I do.
