Today's Chapter: 2 Corinthians 1
Specific Text: 2 Corinthians 1:20-22
Yesterday we looked at what it means to put your money where your mouth is by freely giving your money back to God. As we flip the page today, we begin a new book, but this same principle of money speaking louder than words is referenced. Only this time, it's God putting His money where His mouth is.
Another famous phrase is "the road to hell is paved with good intentions." Good intentions are easy to have. You can resolve to do all sorts of good things. It's not that you're being insincere or fake when you make these intentions, it's just that the complications of life often get in the way of carrying out what you intended.
This is why companies that rely on people making reservations often require them to put down a non-refundable deposit guaranteeing that they will make good on their intention to use the product or service they've reserved. Putting a deposit down is a way of literally putting your money where your mouth is.
This is exactly what God has done for you- He has put a deposit down on you, by which He has reserved you as His own for all eternity. There is no amount of money sufficient to make a deposit like this, so God raised the stakes. He's given you Himself - His Spirit - in your heart as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come!
The opening section of this book, v3-11, reveals the "Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God." This is the awesome benefit you have right here and right now from being included in Christ, but this peace you can experience, as awesome as it is, is just a deposit! The best is yet to come!
Prayer For The Day - Dear Father, thank you so much for putting such a valuable deposit down on me. Thank you that wherever I go and whatever I do, I know that you are with me, giving me comfort now, and preparing me for an eternity with You.
