Specific Text - 1 John 2:24-25
The older a person gets, the more difficult sleeping on an air mattress becomes. Especially if the air mattress leaks it's air out and deflates over time. It starts off fairly comfortable, but just a few minutes later it's a worthless half inflated bag of air.
Tonight is a big night for many of our students. These graduates have been inflated with Christian education at the school, as well as at the church and in their homes for years. Now comes the test: will they hold their inflation? Will they remain filled with God's Word?
None of us are airtight. We all seep out over time. That's why God calls us back into His presence every Sunday to be re-inflated for a new week. But during your school age years, the primary reason you come to church is because your parents bring you. For you graduates, that compulsion is coming to an end, and now it's up to you. Will you do what it takes to remain pumped up with what you have heard from the beginning?
The reward for remaining inflated with God's Word is massive:
If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. And this is what he promised us—eternal life.
Prayer For the Day: Dear Father in Heaven, please keep me close to you and your church and filled with your Word. Thank you for this tremendous promise, that I can remain in Jesus and in You, and that because of this I will be given eternal life. Amen.
